Hey guys, today we're chatting with Jesse R. "Sl1ck" Perillo, a rising star in the rap game from Connecticut. Sl1ck's unique style and dedication to his craft has gained him a loyal following on social media, and we're excited to learn more about his journey as an artist. So, let's dive right in!
Q: Hey Sl1ck, how are you doing today?
Sl1ck: I'm well for the most thanks, and you?
Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? Where are you from and how did you get started in music?
Sl1ck: I was born in Danbury Ct, and since September of 2022 I've lived in Oakville Connecticut. I started writing music back in 2005, but I didn't start recording until 2012. My biggest influences are Ruff Ryders, Rocafella, Eminem, and my father, who was also a musician in drumming and karaoke toward his later years. My father passed in March of 2012 before I started recording 4/16/12.
Q: What qualities do you think are important for a successful artist?
Sl1ck: Determination, patience, and communication are key. You have to be willing to put in the work and stay consistent, even when things get tough. And you have to be able to connect with your fans and collaborators on a deeper level.
Q: What platforms do you use to share your music with the world?
Sl1ck: Right now, I'm primarily using Spotify, YouTube, and social media to reach my fans. It's a great way to get your music out there and connect with people from all over the world.
Q: Have you had the opportunity to perform live? If so, how was the experience?
Sl1ck: I have yet to do any performances, but I'm definitely looking forward to it in the future. It's a great opportunity to speak to or get a message/ your music out to a large audience.
Q: How do you balance making music with your other responsibilities, like work or school?
Sl1ck: When I was still working at an auto parts store, I was able to continue making music and putting together my second project, A Whole Nother, which was released in September 2020. I've also released several singles online over the years on ReverbNation and SoundCloud. While also pushing my first project from 2012-2016, a double disc/gifts/ sL1cK's 24, 25 track project released in December of 2019. Balancing work and music can be challenging, but it's all about finding a routine that works for you.
Q: What sets you apart from other artists in the industry?
Sl1ck: I think I stand out with various styles of freestyles mostly. Not many I feel record and release like they used to, as to old mixtape freestyling. Although I have writtens they are not really in hook and chorus/full song form.
Q: When you're not making music, what do you like to do in your free time?
Sl1ck: Mostly, I'm at home watching movies or playing video games, working on promoting or marketing my music in some way. I'm also always looking for new networking and connection ideas to grow my brand.
Well, that's all the time we have today, folks. We hope you enjoyed learning more about Sl1ck and his journey as an artist. Be sure to check out his music on Spotify and YouTube, and follow him on social media to stay updated on his latest releases. Thanks for tuning in!
