Interview with Destiny King: From Artist to Music Manager By Everyday Clout

Everyday Clout: Destiny, thank you for joining us! Let’s start with your journey. Tell us a little about yourself—where you’re from and how you got into the music industry.

Destiny King: Thank you for having me! My name is Destiny Smith, but most people know me as Destiny King. I’m a single mother of one, a college student, and a tax preparer and graphic designer from Social Circle, GA. My journey has always been rooted in passion, perseverance, and a commitment to helping others.

I started writing songs at just 10 years old, inspired by family members who are deeply involved in the music industry. Watching their success and dedication showed me what was possible, and I knew I wanted to follow in their footsteps. One of the defining moments of my journey was recording my first single, “All Alone,” which set me on the path toward making music a core part of my life.

Everyday Clout: You transitioned from being an artist to becoming a music manager. What inspired that shift?

Destiny King: It was my passion for helping others achieve their dreams. I realized I found more fulfillment working behind the scenes—supporting and guiding artists—than being in the spotlight myself. I wanted to use the knowledge I gained from my own experiences in the industry to help others navigate their paths. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing an artist grow and thrive because of the support I provide.

Everyday Clout: How would you describe your management style?

Destiny King: My management style is a mix of being collaborative, hands-on, and strategic. I work closely with artists to ensure their vision comes to life, valuing input and teamwork above all. I’m deeply involved in every aspect of the process, from planning to execution, and I take a goal-oriented approach to ensure long-term success. My ultimate goal is to see the artists I work with reach their full potential while staying true to themselves.

Everyday Clout: Who were your biggest influences when you were an artist, and how have they shaped your approach as a manager?

Destiny King: My biggest influences are my family members in the music industry. They taught me the importance of hard work, authenticity, and staying true to my craft. Those lessons now shape how I approach management—I focus on supporting artists’ creativity while giving them the structure and strategy they need to succeed.

Everyday Clout: What has been the most rewarding moment of your career so far?

Destiny King: Managing my son has been the most rewarding experience. Watching him evolve in the music industry—from recording in the studio to performing on stage—has been incredible. Seeing others recite his music is such a powerful reminder of the impact music can have and how fulfilling it is to support someone else’s dreams.

Everyday Clout: What type of artists do you enjoy working with the most?

Destiny King: I love working with passionate and dedicated artists who are willing to put in the hard work to grow. While I don’t have strict genre preferences, I feel most connected to artists with a unique voice and vision. Whether it’s hip-hop, R&B, pop, or something entirely new, I value authenticity and the willingness to collaborate and evolve.

Everyday Clout: Balancing creativity and business can be challenging. How do you manage it in your role as a music manager?

Destiny King: It’s all about balance. I ensure the artist’s creative vision is always at the forefront while handling the business side by setting clear goals and managing finances. Staying organized and clear about both aspects allows me to nurture creativity without compromising the strategic decisions necessary for success.

Everyday Clout: If you could manage any artist, past or present, who would it be and why?

Destiny King: That’s a tough one, but I’d say Rich Homie Quan, Mo3, and Mac Miller. Rich Homie Quan’s blend of melodic rap and storytelling stood out to me. Mo3’s raw emotion and relatable lyrics were incredibly impactful. And Mac Miller’s versatility and ability to evolve made him one of the most respected figures in hip-hop. Managing any of them would have been an honor.

Everyday Clout: What challenges have you faced in the music industry, and how have you overcome them?

Destiny King: One of the biggest challenges has been balancing the creative and business sides of the industry. Managing both can be overwhelming, but staying organized and relying on my team has been crucial. The fast-paced, unpredictable nature of the industry can also be challenging, but adaptability and a focus on long-term goals have helped me turn challenges into opportunities for growth.

Everyday Clout: Where do you see your career in the next five years?

Destiny King: In five years, I see myself shaping the careers of up-and-coming artists and helping them achieve long-term success. I envision working with a wider range of talent, possibly starting my own music management company. My goal is to create opportunities for artists to thrive while leaving a positive legacy in the industry.

Everyday Clout: What advice would you give to aspiring managers and artists?

Destiny King: To managers, always stay authentic, patient, and committed to your artists. Build strong relationships, understand their vision, and provide the guidance they need to succeed. For artists, find a manager who believes in your vision and is passionate about supporting your growth. A good manager should be your partner, not just someone handling business matters.
